Dental Checkups & Teeth Cleaning
During your routine exam, we make use of an intraoral camera to take multiple photos of your mouth. This helps you stay more engaged during the examination and ensures you know exactly what’s going in with your oral health. Dr. Dine is also happy to perform routine dental cleanings himself, ensuring not hidden plaque or tartar remains following your appointment. By the of your visit, you’ll be feeling far more confident about your oral health!
Dentistry is essential at every age, but it’s particularly important for younger patients. Once teeth start to erupt, they can begin developing cavities. Our dental office is dedicated to making sure your child’s oral health remains positive going into adulthood, and we aim to do that by creating a calm, friendly and accommodating atmosphere that they can feel safe and welcome in. The sooner we ensure them the dental office is safe place to be, the easier their future visits will become.
Oral Cancer Screening
Much like gum disease, oral cancer has the potential to be a “silent killer” in the sense that it can cause very serious problems with your oral and overall health without you even realizing it. With tens of thousands of new cases every year, you can bet that Dr. Dine takes the opportunity to perform a thorough examination every time you visit for a routine checkup. This includes keeping an eye out for lumps, bumps, oral sores, and red or white patches of tissue.
Fluoride is found in the foods we eat, most public drinking water sources, and nearly all oral care products. This is largely because fluoride is extremely effective at lowering your risk for cavity development. On top of at-home brushing and flossing, Dr. Dine recommends patients receive fluoride treatment to protect enamel from cavity-causing bacteria found in plaque and tartar. While fluoride treatment is regularly recommended to children, it can also be quite beneficial for adults struggling with tooth decay.
Nightguards for Grinding
Teeth can begin to wear down and even get cracked as a result of constant grinding and clenching. While the causes of this condition can be varied, the treatment to protect your smile is relatively straightforward. Our dental office provides patients with custom-made nightguards that work to protect teeth comfortably and for many years to come. Compared to store-bought solutions, you get the most effective long-term solutions for chronic teeth grinding and clenching (also known as bruxism.)
Dental Checkups & Teeth Cleaning FAQs
Knowing what to expect when preparing for a dental checkup and cleaning can spur a host of questions in your mind. Is it necessary to see a dentist if I’m not experiencing problems? What will a typical checkup look like? What can I do at home to better maintain my smile? What payment options are available? To help ease your mind and offer answers to these common questions, Dr. Dine has compiled some dental checkup FAQs for you to review. Should you not see your question listed below, please feel free to call our office and schedule an appointment.
Should I still see a dentist even if I’m not experiencing problems?
Yes. Just because you are not experiencing pain or any other symptoms does not mean no problems are arising. Tooth decay and gum disease may not be noticeable at first; however, a dentist equipped with a trained eye and advanced technology can check for abnormalities and signs that can point to an underlying issue already in the works. By seeing your dentist every six months for a regular checkup and cleaning, you can be sure that your smile is healthy and free of decay or disease. Not to mention, oral cancer screenings, which are performed during your regular visits, can save your life. Without early detection, it can spread quickly and make it much harder to cure.
What will a typical checkup involve?
When visiting Dr. Dine for a regular checkup, you can expect him to review your medical history as well as perform a visual examination of your oral cavity and facial structures. He will also rely on dental X-rays to provide an in-depth look at your overall tooth structures, especially the areas below the surface of your gums. It is during this visit that he will perform an oral cancer screening to check for abnormalities or growths that might point to a serious problem. He will also look for signs of tooth decay, cavities, or gum disease and recommend possible treatment, if necessary.
What can I do to better maintain my smile at home?
Do not be surprised if Dr. Dine or a member of his team provides helpful tips to ensure the health of your smile in-between appointments. These might include:
- Brushing twice daily for two minutes with fluoride toothpaste
- Flossing at least once a day (preferably before you go to bed)
- Rinsing with an ADA-approved mouthwash twice daily
- Limiting sugar and starches to minimize tooth decay and cavities
- Wearing a mouthguard if signs of worn enamel are evident
- Using certain products to help prevent cavities or gum disease (i.e., water irrigator, dental picks, electric toothbrush)
When meeting with Dr. Dine, do not be afraid to ask additional dental checkup questions during your visit.
What payment options are available?
If you have dental insurance, you’ll be pleased to know that most companies will agree to cover two exams and cleanings each year at 100%. Dr. Dine and his team will work with you to help maximize your benefits, understand the cost of treatment, and file any necessary claims and paperwork on your behalf. However, if you are uninsured, it is possible to still receive high-quality dental care at an affordable cost. Dr. Dine offers an in-house membership plan that involves paying yearly or monthly for access to various dental benefits and receiving discounts on other available services. You may also opt to enroll in flexible financing through CareCredit, which is a third-party company that offers low and no interest payment plans.
